Coherence take their inspiration from well-known and legendary artists while their take on classic outerwear is elevated by their focus on in-house fabric design, carefully considered detailing and a central focus on fit.
The Birks-FLB is a new style for us and is available this AW23 in two different fabrics. The initial design is borrowed from old style field jackets but given the full Coherence treatment. As always inspiration comes from a photograph of Jazz Trumpeter John 'Dizzy' Gillespie, wearing a similar style jacket and whose middle name was 'Birks'.
The Birks-FLB Kasuri Rain Camo is cut in Japan from 100% cotton designed by the Coherence in-house team and exclusive to the brand. Kasuri is the Japanese term for fabric that has been woven with fibres dyed specifically to create patterns and images in the fabric, typically referring to fabrics produced within Japan using this technique.
The 'Rain Camo' pattern, or 'line pattern' throughout was first introduced in the mid-60's in East Germany and used up until the 90's. It was also adopted by a number of other Military & non-state forces.
The Jacket has a slightly boxy cut but features an elasticated waist to provide some shape, while the two-way brass zip has been paired with a leather button tab closure.
Fully lined with a wool blanket jersey, the Birks also features two large external pockets that are wool lined, one single chest pocket and a contrasting corduroy collar while a leather button cuff adjusters are used to aid fit on the sleeve.
All Coherence garments are Made in Japan to the highest level of standards hard to find on ready-to-wear garments.
